Process To Create a New School District in Southeast Salt Lake County

Superintendent Search Update

On, Monday, July 21, 2008, the Board Members of the New East side School District interviewed candidates for the position of Superintendent. The Board is pleased to announce the finalists for the New District superintendent are Martin Bates and David Doty.

Dr. Martin Bates is currently an Assistant Superintendent in the Granite School District. Dr. Bates has worked in Granite District for the past 12 years and received his Doctorate of Philosophy and Juris Doctorate from Brigham Young University.

Dr. David Doty is currently Assistant Commissioner and Director of Policy Studies with the Utah System of Higher Education. Dr. Doty has worked in the Utah System of Higher Education for the past 3 years and received his Doctorate of Philosophy and Juris Doctorate from Brigham Young University.

The Board will be conducting site visits and a second round of interviews with the two finalists. The site visits are anticipated to be conducted the week of August 11-15, 2008.

It is anticipated this position will be filled as early as August 19, 2008 and the individual selected, to be the first Superintendent of the New District, will begin immediately.
